Film 4 Good Fund & Collective Moxie Partner to Advance New Model for Independent Filmmaking

PORTLAND, OR — August 19, 2026 — Film 4 Good Fund (F4GF), a finishing fund for narrative filmmakers focused on social justice, and strategy agency Collective Moxie, today announced a new partnership to create a pathway for underrepresented storytellers. By combining last-mile capital with strategic industry support, the initiative connects philanthropic funding directly to career advancement.

The partnership’s inaugural supported slate includes two projects:

The Weight of Sugarcane: Written by Erik Francisco Medina and directed by Rich Pérez, this short film explores adult siblings who return home to care for their ailing Dominican father, navigating complex roles, bonds, and ways of communicating. Featuring a Dominican filmmaker, Puerto Rican script writer, and enacted by an all-Caribbean cast and crew, the film received support for finishing, festival submission, and packaging.

Banana: A comedy series created by and starring Crystal Kim and Kieran Barry, is about a Korean-American young woman trying to become a YouTube mukbang star and figuring out her identity, relationships, and purpose—amid her family’s disapproval. It will receive support for packaging and distribution.

“There are so many gaps in funding and support that prevent talented filmmakers from sustaining a career.” said Kareem Alston-Rosales, founder and executive director of Film 4 Good Fund. “Making the leap from a short to a feature, or web series to streaming, is tough, particularly for underrepresented creators. We believe funders must do more than help finish films; we must build the conditions that allow filmmakers to keep making them. That's the future we're investing in.”

Film 4 Good Fund is currently awarding grants to its inaugural slate of supported films this year.
